To get a good visualization of the potential scars, you must first understand the surgical procedure. One of two techniques will be used to contour the chest, denuding on the type of correction needed. Liposuction removes fatty tissue, while Excision addresses glandular tissue and repositions or rebuilds the nipple. In some cases, a combination will be used.
•Liposuction utilizes several small incisions, each about the size of a pencil eraser. These are placed under the arm, under the areola, or under the breast crease. While visible, the scars from Liposuction are normally well concealed in the natural curves of the body.
•Excision uses one or more incisions along the breast. This may include an incision placed within the lower breast crease. A circular incision, around the areola, will be used to reposition the nipple. The scars will run along the incision line, under the breast or around the areola.
Knowing where the incisions will be placed, it is time to ask yourself a few questions. Are you willing to avoid swimming, heavy workouts, and tight shirts, just to avoid a very small scar on your breast? Will you be more embarrassed by the light scars around the nipples than you already are with large breasts? For the majority of men, the answer to both questions is no. The dramatic improvement in the quality of life is more important than a minor cosmetic scar.
